The Buzz… No. 3

This weeks news features a brand new video with some marriage counselling from Stanley Odd, what happens when CHVRCHES and Miaoux Miaoux combine and The 10:04s hitting up CNN.

  • Political hip-hoppers and all round nice dudes Stanley Odd have a released a new video for “Marriage Counselling”, which featured on their recent album “Reject”. The DIY video sees two Dave Hooks (calm yersel ladies) in differing national dress (Scotland fitbaw tap & Union Jack tee) discussing the upcoming independence vote with viewpoints as seen from both sides of the border.  This is one of my favourite tracks from the album and I’m glad to see it recognised with a stand alone video.  The track won’t be released as a single but it is more of an aperitif some decent happenings, including a new single which is in the pipeline.  Check back here in the next week or so for details of that one you odd-balls.
  • It’s been a hugely successful week for indie lads, The 10:04s.  Their co-organised one-day music festival Haddowfest went down a storm and was capped with a stunning performance from them while supporting The Cribs at Edinburgh’s HMV Picturehouse. Now the band have announced that their single, S.O.S, will be featured by US cable news channel CNN.  The track is to be used on a program by the station which will feature the bands home town of Edinburgh and will be screened worldwide during December. They will hope the exposure will bring in some more well deserved publicity their way. Check out the track below:-
  • CHVRCHES are staying right on course with their steady rise with some rather exciting developments.  The indietronica trio have just released their second single, “The Mother We Share” worldwide (costing just 79 of your customary pennies on ITunes) while the song has treated to an incredible house-mash up Miaoux Miaoux remix which was featured on Ally McRae’s Radio 1 show on Sunday night.  The band have also recorded a BBC Radio 1 session for the lovely Huw Stephens which will no doubt feature their new single. As quite rightly said by Yazz:- The only way is up!
  • The final five entry’s for Forth One’s “One to Watch Award” have now been chosen with the final to be held this Satuday night at Edinburgh’s Liquid Rooms.  The award is open to any unsigned band or artist and will be chosen by a judging panel.  The event will be hosted by In:Demand DJ Jim Gellatly and previous winners which include The Directors and Callum Beattie,.  Tickets are £5 and can be purchased here. The final five are as follows:-

Charleena – Sultry pop. Think Gaga meets Whitney Houston – our pick of the bunch!

Jamie & Shoony – Straight up indie

Al Park – Reminicent of Hurts meets Calvin Harris

The Holy Ghosts – Country rock and roll

George Kennedy – Driven Pop/Rock

    • Hi Craig, thank you for your comments. I couldn’t make it unfortunately but you are right, she really does have a great talent. Disappointing she never took the accolade but she is young enough to bounce back from it. Well done to Jamie & Snoony nevertheless.

    • Hi Fhern! Thanks for stopping by! Yes from what I heard her hair is as big as her voice! Glad you enjoyed witnessing a very small portion of our underground music scene. If you fancy seeing more I would highly advise you check out Dead Sea Souls and Greg Pearson at the Electric Circus this Saturday night. Should be outstanding!
